037 You see we are like a diamond in the rough. When man first found the substance that turned out to be a diamond, he saw a rock through his physical sense of sight but something inside of him told him that this rock was different from others. It was his consciousness and not his mind that alerted him to the fact that if he would cut and polish it, it would be the most beautiful thing that he had ever seen. Radiating every color conceivable. But this result would require patience and a lot of hard work, even pain at times when cut by the sharp edges. Every man is a diamond in the rough and there are many rough edges that must be removed before he can see the purity of himself.

最近、”自分みがき”という言葉が用いられるようになりましたが、本項はその表現の要点を説くものでもあります。
実際に河原の石は丸く、滑らかなものも多く、石の内部の結晶がキレイに表現されていますが、それも本項に記されているように長年月の間、様々な問題に取組ながら、角がとれて円満な形が生まれたと言えるでしょう。
私達は皆、本文にあるように宝石の原石のような存在であり、各自が問題とぶつかる中で自らの欠点を取り除き、その外側の汚れが取り除かれ、私達本来の姿を表現できる存在となる訳です。
